Well, that's a first...

Since turning three, Garin has become more and more picky about food. Weirdly picky, with lots of things he used to love now on the "no way" list. And for weird reasons: he won't eat fresh tomatoes (previously one of his favorite things) because they have seeds; he won't drink orange juice because it has pulp; he doesn't like it if one food picks up a color from another food; etc. But yesterday, we had a switch and for the first time, something that had previously been a no food became a yes food! Garin has never liked eggs, from the very beginning of eating he would refuse them in all forms. Not allergic because he would happily eat things with eggs in them without problem, but eggs alone were never accepted. But last night he agreed to try "cheesy eggs" (scrambled eggs with cheese) and lo-and-behold, he loved them! Amazing. Supports my thinking that he will return to those former favorite foods once the picky stage is over.

Bathing Beauties

Nyle finally has enough head/body control to enjoy the bath. And he's started smiling too!For extra fun he gets to take a bath with Garin.Garin is, by the way, a fabulous big brother. His teachers say he talks about Nyle all the time at school; he can often be found at home saying "hey baby, baby!" to get Nyle's attention or try to calm him down; he helps fetch items for diaper changes; he scooped bubbles from his own bathtub into Nyle's since we hadn't put bubble bath in with the baby, etc, etc. Sure, he gets annoyed when Nyle cries a lot or when we can't attend to Garin's wishes immediately, but for the most part, he's all that could be wished for in an older sibling. (And Nyle is fascinated by him, as you can see from the photos above.)

One Month of Nyle

Happy one month birthday to Nyle!(We haven't been taking many photos lately
because he's going through a bit of a baby acne stage,
not his most photogenic.)

Nesting

It has been COLD here. (No, not cold like the midwest below 0 cold, but actual cold, with water freezing outside and all that, and certainly cold temps - 20s and 30s - for this area.)

The kids have spent a lot of time making nests on the couch to keep warm. Too bad the camera doesn't have a wide enough angle lens to show that they were nestled on opposite ends of the couch. (But it does show that only one would actually sleep, and even that wasn't for very long.)

Happy New Year!

The King of the New Year

After explaining the change of year to Garin he asked what a New Years resolution was. When we told him it was something you wanted to change or do differently, he said he wanted to send more postcards this year. (Really, he came up with that on his own out of the blue.)

So, we are going to try to make sure he sends one per week. If you want to be on the recipient list, make sure we have your address. Send it to Garin at: garinfrancis at gmail. (Best not to assume we have it, even if we should, or we once did.)
